Nestled in the heart of the countryside, Best Mate Pet Cremation is a tranquil haven, overlooking the Shannon Estuary on the Limerick/Kerry border with rolling fields and trees stretching out on either side. If a pet’s family chooses to visit they will be greeted personally. Each pet will be honoured with an individual cremation and the family are allowed the time and space to say farewell with dignity and privacy.

Our family

Paul and Gillian’s lives have always revolved around family and their love for dogs. Growing up in households filled with wagging tails, they each developed a deep appreciation for the unique bond between humans and their canine companions. Over the years, they’ve built a life rooted in care, compassion, and understanding of the special place pets hold in our hearts.

A history of care

Having spent the last decade managing Pawls Kennels and Grooming Service, the couple saw a growing need to create a space and environment that facilitated helping others navigate the difficult journey of saying goodbye to their beloved companions.

Best Mate, a new pet crematorium, is more than a business — it’s a sanctuary where grieving families are treated with kindness and respect. Drawing on their personal experiences with their own dogs, they strive to honor the unconditional love and joy pets bring into our lives by providing a dignified and caring farewell for each cherished friend.

We had 12 and half years with her and the devastation was overwhelming. But thanks to Paul he made Sadies final hours with us so calm and reassured us he would take so much care of her. We opted to bring Sadie ourselves. The family room was private comforting and peaceful. Paul gave us a chance to say a long final goodbye without rushing us and we are very grateful for that. Her ashes,fur,pawprint and certificate were beautifully presented the next day and we are starting to accept our loss; forever heartbroken but so grateful to Paul and Gillian.

I had googled pet cremation services and came across 2 within my local area, the first one wanted to contact me back, but I got through to Paul immediately so felt a bit more reassured. I had asked if he dealt with snakes as my daughter had her for 15 years and was devastated with her loss. Paul informed me that he had never accommodated a snake but would manage to help with the passing on of Sofia. The grieving room was welcoming and a nice touch to help owners say their goodbyes. I had chosen a few memorable pieces of jewellery for my daughter to have to keep Sofia close which were really beautiful and reasonably priced. Paul contacted me a few days later to inform me that her ashes were ready to collect. The standard urn she came in was really beautiful and orange which matched Sofia’s colouring which was a thoughtful touch!! I was very impressed with the service I was given from start to finish and would definitely go to Paul again when required.

We drove to Glin from Limerick where we met Paul. Ellie was placed in a beautiful basket and we were invited to a quiet room with candles and seating and so peaceful. We were told to take as much time as we needed. From the time we arrived to collecting Ellie it was 24hrs. I had chosen a beautiful Urn for Ellies ashes but there are lots of options available. We were also given a cert for an individual cremation, some of Ellies hair, a photo frame containing Ellies footprint. The Urn was engraved with her name which was a lovely touch. I cannot recommend using Best Mate Cremation enough. Thank you for your kindness Paul.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Losing our beautiful 15-year-old Golden Retriever, Jess, was one of the hardest things we've ever been through, but Paul at Best Mate Pet Cremation treated her with such kindness, dignity and compassion.

Jess passed away peacefully at home, and Paul came to collect her that same evening. He was incredibly gentle, respectful and understanding at such a difficult time, which brought us great comfort.

Jess was returned to us just two days later, on a Sunday evening, allowing her to be back home with us as quickly as possible. The care, professionalism and genuine compassion shown throughout the entire process meant so much to our family.

Thank you, Paul, for treating Jess with the love and respect she deserved. We will always be grateful for your kindness during one of the saddest times in our lives.
